A True Colorado Christmas Tree

Yesterday Mattie had a rehearsal for our church's Christmas pageant.  We were talking with Josh Harwood about our plan to grab lunch after rehearsal and then go buy our Christmas tree.  To that he responded, "Why don't you just come over and cut one down in on our property?"  Wow!  Really?!?  This offer was too good to pass up!  Not only would the tree be free, but we could get one as tall as we wanted and we'd have a fun afternoon hanging out with the Harwoods.  Mattie and their daughter Lily are about 6 months apart and love playing together!  A win-win!  Josh likes to thin a few trees on their property every year anyway!

So we did grab some lunch and then headed over to Josh and Laura's.  Josh already knew of some good ones to point out.  So we went tromping through their property and checked out some various trees.  After looking at several it became clear which one was the best one for us!  Also,  Mattie picked out a small one of her own.  Josh grabbed his chain saw and within about 5 minutes, we had a Christmas tree!  The one we cut down was between 13-14 feet!  When we got home Bob cut off a couple of feet making it around 12 feet.

Meanwhile, Lily and Mattie went exploring and found the head of dead elk.  They were both very excited about this.  (Two peas in a pod!) This is definitely something you would not stumble upon in suburbia.  They both got gloves and had to pick it up and bring it back to the house to investigate.

We got to hang out for a while with Josh and Laura, drink cocoa, and Mattie and Lily danced and played in the living room.  Eventually they put on a "show" dance for us.

We finally strapped the big tree to our truck and threw Mattie's little tree in the back of the truck and drove home.   It is a magnificent tree!  A dream come true to get to have a 12 foot tree in my living room!  When it is all up and decorated, I'll write another post and include photos.
